About Us - HMMH

Innovation and Research

A key differentiator between HMMH and other firms is that we advance the knowledge base in addition to applying the science of acoustics and noise modeling to specific projects.  Clients retain HMMH to provide specialized technical assistance on a broad range of emerging issues where gaps in existing regulations, policies, and procedures require a novel application of experience and knowledge.

HMMH is involved in research and policy setting on key noise issues that airports face on a daily basis, including the single largest aircraft noise research project currently being conducted by the FAA. We conduct research directly for the FAA and the National Academy of Science’s Cooperative Research Programs, and we provide expert advice to the FAA’s Center of Excellence for Alternative Jet Fuels and Environment, ASCENT. In addition, HMMH has also developed several proprietary software tools such as InFLIGHT™, RealContours™, and SoGlare™.

HMMH Founders From left to right: Nicholas Miller, Andrew Harris, Carl Hanson, and Robert Miller

History

Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc. (HMMH) was founded in 1981 by Andrew Harris, Nicholas Miller, Robert Miller, and Carl Hanson to provide the highest quality noise consulting services to airports.  A spin-off from Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN), HMMH’s founders worked on some of the earliest, ground-breaking transportation noise challenges, including early work for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor.

Today, in addition to our noise practice, HMMH addresses emerging and technologically challenging projects, including air quality analysis, airport and airspace planning, and climate and energy solutions. HMMH is nationally recognized for tackling complex problems affecting our environment, while remaining faithful to our founders’ legacy of technical excellence and client satisfaction.
