Matthew Simon is a Principal Consultant at HMMH, working closely with the firm’s aviation noise, air quality, and sustainability teams. He has more than 15 years of experience in air quality, emissions, and sustainability analysis within the transportation sector, combining deep technical expertise with system-level thinking and proven leadership.

Matt’s background also includes academic research and instruction at Boston University and Tufts University, with a focus on aviation noise and emissions, community exposure, environmental justice, and health impacts. His research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and continues to inform national discussions on aviation environmental impacts. Earlier in his career, Matt supported the U.S. Department of Energy on hydrogen and fuel cell technology market demonstrations, strengthening his expertise in sustainability and decarbonization.

Matt holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tufts University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. His ability to bridge research, policy, and applied consulting supports HMMH’s work helping airport and aviation clients address complex environmental and climate challenges.
