HMMH led the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Neighborhood Environmental Survey (NES). The achieved goal of the Survey was to update prior dose-response relationships – some of which date from the 1970s – and provide a best estimate of the current relationship between aircraft noise exposure and the self-reported annoyance of residents for the nation.
In addition to overall project management and technical oversight of the project, HMMH was responsible for all noise-related work, including assembling data for airport site selection, revising survey design and questionnaires in accordance with international standards, developing noise exposure estimates via modeling, and preparing the report. HMMH also led initial supplemental analyses of the survey to help FAA understand the cause(s) and characteristics of annoyance.
