The Wellington Orange Line Yard Rebuild Project includes the replacement of critical elements throughout Wellington Yard, allowing for the operation, proper maintenance, and reliable service for a new Orange Line vehicle fleet. The project construction includes site work, track improvements, structural changes, as well as traction power, signal and communication system upgrades across the multi-acre yard over a thirty-six-month construction period.
HMMH, as part of the project design team, assisted the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) with planning for the control of noise and vibration impacts during the project construction period. The yard is located in between the Wellington Orange Line Station and a new transit oriented development community, Station Landing, which includes a number of multi-story residential and commercial buildings.
The scope of services included identifying existing conditions for noise and vibration in the neighborhoods surrounding the yard, developing contract specifications that would minimize community impacts and reviewing contractor compliance with construction noise control, monitoring and mitigation requirements. HMMH is providing support during construction in support for any noise issues that develop during the construction phase.
