HMMH was retained by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) to measure and evaluate noise levels from train passbys on four diamond crossings on Main Street in Houston. Two of the diamond crossings are located at the intersection of Main Street and Capitol Street, while the other two diamonds are located at the intersection of Main Street and Rusk Street. This work was performed under an on-call contract with METRO.
HMMH evaluated the measured noise levels from train passbys on the diamond crossings with respect to noise level limits and criteria established by the City of Houston, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The analysis resulted in identifying potential mitigation measures to reduce the impulsive noise from the train passbys.
