HMMH supported the development of the 2018 Massachusetts State Rail Plan. The plan documents the state rail system and identifies the planned improvements to the state rail network. The plan also outlines the Commonwealth’s 20-year vision and four-year plan for the statewide rail system. The State Rail Plan is a federally required document that must be periodically updated. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) prepared the 2018 plan as an update to the 2010 State Rail Plan. Future rail activities in each state are generally guided by the studies and capital improvements included in the Rail Plan.
HMMH supported the Rail Plan development team by providing our unique understanding of how the freight and passenger rail network in Massachusetts functions. Specifically HMMH provided input on past and planned network changes, freight operations, and issues associated with network connectivity beyond state borders.
