This course is designed for airport noise officers and other professionals dealing with aircraft noise. It provides a comprehensive background and discussion of many topics that airport noise officers deal with on a daily basis. The course will cover eight main topics, each in its own 1.5-hour module:
- Acoustics (as applied to environmental analyses)
- Aircraft Noise Terminology
- Effects of Aircraft Noise on People
- Federal Aviation Noise Regulations
- Aircraft Noise Modeling
- Noise Measurements
- Airport Noise Management
- Aviation Noise Mitigation
Due to the popularity and flexibility of the online format, we are holding the course virtually again as a webinar. Eight modules will be spread out over four days, leaving time in your day to attend to other business.
Course participants will receive an electronic copy of the course materials that support and expand on material covered in each module they attend. Participants may choose to attend any number of modules, with a discounted rate when attending four or more modules. A certificate will be provided to those who attend the full course.

FUNDAMENTALS
11:00-12:30 ET
Provides a thorough discussion of the mathematical description of aircraft noise – the acoustics that underlie the noise terminology we use on a daily basis. Specific topics will include sound pressure levels, decibels, human perception of sound, and sound propagation.
1:00-2:30 ET
Provides a discussion of the noise terminology most commonly used to describe aircraft noise. Specific measures will include the A-weighted decibel, Time Above, Sound Exposure Level, Equivalent Sound Level, Day-Night Average Sound Level, and Community Noise Equivalent Level.

BIG PICTURE
11:00-12:30 ET
Covers the effects of aircraft noise on people, including both behavioral and health effects. We also will discuss federal and local guidelines for assessing the compatibility of aircraft noise with land use.
1:00-2:30 ET
Covers the federal noise regulations that govern the discussion of aircraft noise, including NEPA and Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), specifically Parts 36, 91, 150, and 161.

ASSESSMENT
11:00-12:30 ET
Presents an overview of aircraft noise modeling techniques with a focus on the most recent version of the FAA's noise model, AEDT.
1:00-2:30 ET
Includes techniques for making noise measurements near an airport, such as the factors that help determine when and where measurements should be made; how to make measurements; and reporting methodology.

PROBLEM SOLVING
11:00-12:30 ET
Describes airport noise and operation monitoring systems and capabilities including design, specifications, and procurement, and most importantly, what to do with information collected through these monitoring systems. We will also discuss the role of the airport noise manager as liaison with the community.
1:00 - 2:30 ET
Provides an overview of aircraft noise mitigation, focusing on sound insulation program fundamentals. Discussion topics will include program eligibility, funding, and planning, and acoustical testing.
